Introductions Movie Review - WE

by Carol A Hill

The concept of the movie was of a fictional woman named Wallis. Whose life crossed paths with, the deceased Duchess Of Windsor, Wallis Simpson. The true story was an old one. When at the time, the world watched the announcement Of Edward VIII's abdicating the British throne to marry a divorced American socialite.

The fictional Wallis had a career at a famous auction house. She quit her job there suffering at the hands of an abusive physician husband. In another sense, the Duchess Wallis hardly noticed as her husband Ernest suffered silently. While, she cavorted with the future king of England.

The movie asked the question "What did Wallis and Edward give up for each other?
The answer might have been a life of exile. Not too bad a lifestyle choice if, your husband was connected to the British Royal family. The movie also displayed the extravagance of the Duke and Duchess's belongings. At the same auction house where, the fictional Wallis once worked. Everything sold for large amounts of money. Perhaps, the items purchased gave the new owners a piece of what was once a part of the Duke and Duchess Of Windsor's glamorous history.

The fictional Wallis had to resolve a conflict. She did not have enough social clout to boost her way upwards. Therefore, it was a question whether to remain in her marriage or to leave and find happiness elsewhere. The Duchess Wallis left her husband becoming a devoted wife to the Duke. In those days, it was a socialite's duty to marry well and to remain in that marriage. Unless, the stigma of divorce ruined a woman's chances of being acceptable again. In which case, she re-married as soon as possible to someone even higher up the social ladder.

The film was a good escape similar of those made during the depression era. It managed to blend both the sweetness of romance with stark reality. The Duchess Wallis found her prince and lived happily ever-after. Although, she was sometimes racked with guilt over her decision. She even admitted it to someone she trusted. After the Duke passed away, the Duchess Wallis lived the rest of her life in seclusion.

If the movie's theme was about taking risks for love,it made a good point. The fictional Wallis had enough of a good education landing her a career in either art auctions or an art gallery.Whereas, the Duchess Wallis's background assured her a life of social ambition.Either way, both the fictional Wallis and the Duchess Wallis made their life choices count for something.
